Details
In Painting with Three Spots, Wassily Kandinsky distills the world into an abstract cosmos of fluctuating forms and vibrant colors, evoking a spiritual and vital force that transcends appearances. Though painted before his Paris years and the rise of biomorphic abstraction in the 1930s, the canvas already hints at organic, microcosmic shapes that anticipate the artist’s later fascination with life’s unseen energies. Resonating with this vision, Regina de Miguel’s hybrid paintings imagine speculative ecosystems inhabited by holobionts: multi-species assemblages merging organic and inorganic matter—nervous systems, corals, fungi, insects, minerals. These chimeric beings embody Lynn Margulis’s theories of symbiotic life, foregrounding interdependence as the fundamental structure of existence. Together, Kandinsky’s proto-biomorphic abstraction and De Miguel’s eco-futurist organisms weave a shared horizon where nature, matter, and spirit are inseparable agents within an entangled, living planet. A Gaian imaginary emerges, unsettling linear histories and reclaiming lost ways of coexisting.
