Biografía
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1966, Luz Lizarazo studied Art at Universidad de los Andes and at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. She later lived in Madrid for ten years, where she studied jewellery, while also studying ceramics in Bogotá. She lives and works in Bogotá.
Lizarazo’s poetic and political practice develops a distinctive visual language that confronts the systemic subjugation of the female voice and body, exploring female autonomy, sexuality, and liberation. Working across drawing, watercolor, painting, sculpture, embroidery, and environmental installation, she employs a wide range of materials, including glass, ceramics, wood, bones, wool, and human hair. Her work frequently explores the fragmented body, both inside and outside, and its relationship to vulnerability, intimacy, and the surrounding environment.
A recurring concern in her practice is the relationship between the intimate and the public, as well as the interaction between the body and space. Her series *Skin* (2017–2021), made using stockings as a metonym for human skin, examines the skin as both a physical surface and a site of identity, vulnerability, and exposure.
Her work has been presented in exhibitions and projects in Colombia and internationally, including *Cicatrices* at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO) in 2021–2022, the first institutional exhibition devoted to her multifaceted practice, and *Cicatrices* at Museo La Tertulia in Cali in 2022.
